The
DeKalb County Sheriff’s Mounted Unit, organized in 2002 by
then Lt. Jimmy Harris, is a volunteer organization now headed by
Commander Jonathan Langley. The members of the Mounted Unit are
regular deputies
or mounted reserves who
give their time to assist the Sheriff in providing security and
conducting searches in DeKalb County and Northeast Alabama. The
Mounted Unit has participated in numerous search missions, as well
as, apprehention operations. The Mounted Unit provides security
to local events like rodeos, large gatherings, concerts, reenactments,
and fairs. The unit is also in charge of the security of the north
campground at the Talladega Speedway.
