Sheriff Jimmy Harris states as follows:

Sheriff Jimmy Harris states that on December 30th the DeKalb County Drug and Major Crimes Task Force, DeKalb County Sheriff’s deputy, Crossville Police Officers and DeKalb County DHR went to an address on Alabama Hwy 68 to check the welfare of a child. While knocking on the front door of the residence officers observed through a window an indoor marijuana plant growing operation. Officers secured the residence and obtained a search warrant. As a result of the search officers found marijuana, 13 marijuana plants at full growth with a street value of $26,000, drug paraphernalia, guns, a sawed off shotgun and a pistol that had altered serial numbers. Edward Joseph Sawicki, 37 of Albertville was arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana 1st, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of short barrel rifle/shotgun and Possession of Altered Firearm ID. DHR removed the 2 children from the residence.

Sheriff Harris says “Task Force has done an outstanding job this year as well as in this case. They are doing a good job of being observant which helped them to obtain a search warrant and the arrest of the suspect.”
