Busy Week for the Sheriff’s Office    

 

Sheriff Jimmy Harris states as follows:

 

 

            In the earlier morning hours of February 3rd Deputies attempted to make a traffic stop on Alabama Highway 168, when deputies initiated their lights the vehicle took off at a high rate of speed. After a short chase the vehicle ran off the road on County Road 380 where they got stuck. Deputies identified the driver of the vehicle as Sterlin Ray Morgan, 23 of Albertville and the passenger as Shiane Paige Oguinn, 21 of Crossville. Upon the search of the vehicle Deputies found 4 small bags of methamphetamine. Both Morgan and Oguinn were arrested, Morgan was charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of controlled substance and attempting to elude a police officer; Oguinn was charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of controlled substance.

             On February 7th DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a theft at the Dollar General Store in Collinsville. When Deputies arrived the manager stated that he observed Trisha Marie Decastro, 36 of Crossville putting some items in her purse that she didn’t pay for. As Deputies searched Decastro’s purse they found items from the store that she had taken and a small black container that contained several plastic baggies which contained methamphetamine and some prescription pills. Decastro was accompanied by Anthony Gerald Brown. As deputies and Crossville officer were checking Brown for items, they found a marijuana grinder along with marijuana in his pocket. Brown pulled away from Officers and took off running through a residential area. Brown was not located but warrants have been obtained for Browns arrest. Decastro was arrested and charged with theft of property 4th, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of controlled substance and illegal possession of prescription drugs.

                Also on February 7th the DeKalb County received a call about a vehicle leaving a residence that a stolen vehicle was recovered from last week. When Deputies was on their way to the residence they observed the described vehicle traveling in the opposite direction, when Deputies turned around the vehicle accelerated to a high speed. After chasing the vehicle for several miles the vehicle left the roadway striking a tree the driver DeWayne Bailey and passenger Adam Talley both took off on foot into the woods. K-9 Marianna tracked the offenders for several hours but lost scent. Deputies got word that Talley was located at a residence on Wigley Ave in Powell. When Deputies arrived at the residence they found Talley hiding in a closet. As Deputies were looking for Talley they observed syringes and methamphetamine inside the residence. As a result 4 individuals were arrested: Kenneth Adam Talley, 32 of Fyffe charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and attempt to elude; Steven LeeRoy Allison, 43 of Powell; Amanda Renae Ledwell, 26 of Dutton; and James Wesley Phillips, 47 of Fyffe all charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

                On February 8th Deputies and a Geraldine Officer conducted a traffic stop on County Road 24. As a result of the traffic stop James Parrish Bartlett had warrants with Boaz Police Department and Logan Elizabeth Johnson, 21 of Albertville also had warrants with Marshall County. As Deputies and Officers were obtaining this information Johnson tried to elude the scene. Bartlett was transported to Boaz Police Department and Johnson was arrested for attempting to elude and transported to DeKalb County Detention Center.

           

                Also on February 8th Deputies conducted a traffic stop on Highway 75. When Deputies approached the vehicle the Deputies observed the driver being very nervous. Deputies then got K-9 Marianna out to do an open air sniff, K-9 Marianna alerted on the driver side of the vehicle. When Deputies got Brandon Lee Preston, 33 of Henagar out of the vehicle they found Preston to have a 2 small plastic bags of methamphetamine *on his person and a pistol in the vehicle. Preston was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of controlled substance.

                Sheriff Harris says “Our Deputies and the Officers that assisted did a great job on all of these arrest.
