FORT PAYNE, Ala. - The DeKalb County Sheriff's Office and The DeKalb County Animal Adoption Center are partnering up in the hopes of helping more dogs find their fur-ever homes. Our plan is each month we will take in a new dog for our inmates to teach basic training and socialization skills in the hopes that it will be easier for them to be adopted into their fur-ever home. This program will not only help the animal shelter pups but it will also give our inmates a sense of purpose and responsibility, helping with anxiety and stress levels and just brighten everyone's day. When our inmates have the dogs ready to adopt, we will post pictures on our Facebook so you could then just get with the animal shelter at (256) 304-0474, fill out the application and go from there. DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden said of the incident: "We are so excited about this program and all the benefits that will come with it. Each dog will be house trained and learn basic obedience skills before they go home with you. This is just an amazing opportunity for our inmates and to just boost overall moral within our facility." "God Bless!" Concluded Sheriff Welden.
