Michael Edmondson was promoted to Chief Deputy in January of 2009. Prior to being chief he served as captain of the Patrol Division from January 2007-2009 and sergeant from 2005-2007. He came to work for the Sheriff’s Office in 2000 as a corrections officer. During which he received certification in Jail Management. In 2001 he was promoted to deputy and graduated from the Northeast Alabama Police Academy in May of 2002.

Chief Edmondson is a graduate of Crossville High School and Gadsden State Community College, where he received an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice.

Chief Edmondson is committee chair person with the United Givers Fund of DeKalb County. He is a member of the Geraldine Masonic Lodge and the Cahaba Shrine Club as well as Macedonia #2 Church.  He actively volunteers for Relay for Life, March of Dimes, Race to Embrace, and other charities. Since he has been Chief Deputy he has been instrumental in establishing the DeKalb County Neighborhood Watch program.
